The goal of
our medical mission trips
is to provide medical care to a large number of
people in
Peru. The people who receive assistance are
among the poorest in
Peru. They live
in precariously built places around Lima
(the Peruvian capital) and in the Highlands of the
Peruvian Andes, and they do not have water, electricity or sewer
services.
There a high percentage of malnourished children who are usually suffering from upper
respiratory infections, diarrhea, parasitic diseases,
and dermatological problems. The women become
pregnant at early ages, have several children and
also suffer of precarious health.
About
the Missions
The
medical missions to
Peru are
directed and coordinated by Luis
E. Raez, MD, FACP, FCCP (oncologist and internal
medicine) (Miami, FL), Francisco G.
La Rosa, MD (pathologist) (Denver, CO) and Orlando Silva MD, FACP
(internal medicine)
(Miami, FL).
Dr. Raez
and Dr. La Rosa, members of SIA and the CLM, join
efforts with Dr. Silva, the founder of the
Miami group called “Emmaus Medical Missions”,
that successfully has been organizing medical missions
to the mountains of Guatemala for several years
assisting very poor people and abandoned children.
Together they started organizing the medical missions
to
Peru in October 2006 with the help of a group of
health care professionals and volunteers from the
United States and Latin America. |
